2007 September Central Pennsylvania Make-N-Take - Duct Tape Dummies
If you missed the September Make-N-Take, you missed this:
What did we make?
Duct Tape Dummies. "What's a duct tape dummy," you ask? I had the same
question. Turns out, duct tape dummies started out as a simple and inexpensive
way of making customized (and somewhat temporary) dress-form dummies. Haunters
quickly found it was a cheep and quick way of creating human-like bodies for static
props (and anamatronics if you think outside the box a bit...).
How did we make them?
The procedure is failrly straight-foreward. Have your model dress in old,
throw-away clothing and wrap them neck to ankle in three-or-more layers of duct
tape (trying your best not to cut off all their circulation...). Once fully
wrapped, cut the tape off like a giant cast. The usual method of making the
form stand on its own is to create a PVC pipe frame and stuff the form with
newspaper. We did not create the PVC form at this event.
Attendees:
Michael Bruner, organizer of Eastern Haunters Convention
Joel Rybacki of Boiling Ponds Cemetery (me)
